Dinesh Karthik, who was selected as the backup wicketkeeper for MS Dhoni in the Indian ICC World Cup 2019 squad, has finally made his World Cup debut. Karthik’s patience was rewarded 15 years after making his one-day international debut.
Karthik had earlier made it into the Indian squad for the 2007 World Cup in West Indies but could not get a game there, as India made an early exit. With Karthik in the line-up against Bangladesh, India played with three specialist wicket-keepers - Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni.
However, Karthik couldn’t really make use of the opportunity as he fell for 8 off 9 balls while trying to accelerate. India’s win over Bangladesh confirms their place in the semi-final spot.
