When the dust of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament will settle, the focus is going to shift to the iconic Ashes series which will saw Australia batting arch-rivals for a five-match Test series. The much-awaited series scheduled in England is set to commence from August 1 in Birmingham.
For this purpose, Australian team has decided to hire the services of legendary cricketer Steve Waugh. The former captain will act as team’s mentor for the six-week tour. The 54-year old who won eight Ashes series is the last Aussie skipper to win the Ashes in England (2001). Considering his record and experience, it comes as a massive boost to Kangaroos.
Current skipper and wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine is delighted to share the company of a cricket great as he is eager to learn a lot. Moreover, Cricket Australia is expecting the New South Wales born to make his presence felt by upgrading the skills of the existing crop of players. It remains to be seen if Paine is able to replicate Waugh’s heroics.
