Williamson hopeful for improved performance in semis

New Zealand barely made it to the final four of this year’s ICC World Cup as they suffered three straight defeats with latest being thrashing received from hosts England. Had they won, it would have been New Zealand and not England who were assured of a place in the semi-finals.

New Zealand book their semi-final spot given their huge net run-rate advantage over Pakistan. Considering his team’s poor run of form, captain Kane Williamson believes form in the group stage will count very less in the semi-final matches.

“If we are fortunate to be in a semi-final, then we do have a little bit of a break," he said. "If you are in a knockout stage where it's a semi-final opportunity, anything can happen. We know that we haven't put out our best performance yet and we know when we do it gives us the best chance of beating anybody, without a doubt,” Williamson said.
