The World Cup journey ends with a heartbreak for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka who are left with an improbable task of qualifying for the semi-finals. What makes the scenario more complex for both sides is that their scheduled World Cup encounter was subjected to persistent rain and was ultimately washed out without a delivery bowled.
As a result, both teams shared a point each and were left bereft of a chance to add a point to their tally. Former Sri Lankan cricketer and now commentator Russel Arnold claimed on Twitter that the washout experienced during Pakistan-Sri Lanka game perhaps proved to be the costliest draw out of all the four rained off games in the tournament.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka both defeated England and Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men were probably in a better chance to make it to the final four had they won the match against Sri Lanka. This would have allowed them a lead over New Zealand who currently stand at 11 points.
