Pakistan pinned its hopes on Fakhar Zaman when he announced himself in the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, since then he has failed to live up to the expectations especially in big events like the Asia Cup and the ongoing ICC World Cup.
The dashing opener, who is perceived to play better in overseas conditions, failed to produce any match-winning performance for Pakistan in cricket’s showpiece event. Fakhar could not manage more than a fifty in eight games. Apart from the 62 that he scored against India, the opening batsman’s scores were of little significance.
The 29-year-old could only muster 186 runs in eight innings for Pakistan in the World Cup. Moreover, his inability to play spin is clearly evident and opposition teams have taken full advantage of this vulnerability by deploying a spinner against him.
