Despite making a strong comeback in the World Cup with four straight victories, Pakistan bowed out of the tournament on the basis of poor Net Run Rate than New Zealand. Pakistan managed to restore some pride after beating sides like South Africa, England and New Zealand.
However, according to captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, the humiliating defeat in their first match against West Indies proved to be undoing of Pakistan’s journey in the World Cup.
"We played very good cricket in the last four matches, but unfortunately we couldn't qualify. Only the one match against West Indies cost us the whole tournament, but the way the boys responded after the India match was honestly commendable," said Sarfaraz
Pakistan had suffered a humiliating 7-wicket defeat to West Indies in their opening match of World Cup 2019 where they were bowled out for just 105 and as a result, of that Pakistan’s NRR was badly affected as it was -5.802 after the first match.
