Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has added a layer of pressure on the England side ahead of their clash in the semi-final at Edgbaston. Reigning champions Australia were defeated in their final game of the group stage resulting in them being placed number two on the points table setting up a high-profile encounter against arch-rivals England.
While Australia comfortably emerged victorious over the hosts earlier in the tournament, Lyon reckoned the burden of expectations lay on Eoin Morgan’s men. Known for making bold statements, Lyon ramped up the mind games against the familiar foes.
“They're full of world-class players and they've been the number one team for a couple of years now. They should be going into this World Cup as favourites, it's all on them. It's their World Cup to lose if you ask me,” Lyon spoke in the aftermath of the loss to South Africa.
