Pakistan’s first-round exit from the World Cup has been the center of a lot of public backlash from fans and ex-players back home. Despite acquiring five wins and securing 11 points, Pakistan were unable to head into the semi-finals on the net run-rate rule drawing criticism from former cricketers.
Some experts on media went as far to term the current lot of Pakistan cricketers for playing selfishly and for personal records. Such impudent and sweeping statements have riled up legendary pacer Waqar Younis, who harangued certain sections of the media for sensationalizing Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup campaign for the sake of obtaining more viewership.
He expressed his embarrassment at seeing former Pakistan cricketers lashing out at youngsters so rudely, terming their line of speech as “verbal diarrhea”. Waqar’s sentiments were widely shared by a majority of the Twitter community.
