The Afghanistan cricket team did not have an ideal World Cup campaign this year as a couple of off-field controversies lead to continuous shuffling of players after every 1 to 2 games.
Fast bowler Aftab Alam was sent back home during the tournament after it was reported that he misbehaved with a guest at one of the hotels in Southampton. Initially, it was said that Aftab had to return home under ‘exceptional circumstances’ but later it was confirmed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) that the pacer breached disciplinary code of conduct.
According to ACB chief Atif Mashal, a disciplinary committee has been formed to investigate the whole matter and is directed to give a comprehensive report regarding the incident. The ACB would take suitable action against Alam as soon as the report is presented next week.
