Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has had a sensational World Cup campaign with the bat. Often rescuing his side from dire situations, the youngster’s matured exhibition of cricket has left many gushing over his talented abilities.
In the semi-final against England, Australia were rocked early on by a top-order collapse leaving them in a precarious position at 14/3. The left-handed Carey was then promoted up the order to stabilize the Aussie innings and he soon copped a dangerous blow to his jaw from England’s right-arm pacer Jofra Archer.
The lightning-paced delivery slipped through Carey’s helmet and struck him on the chin leading to a fresh wound. Despite applying bandages on his sore jaw, Carey continued to bat in a gritty manner epitomizing Australia’s never-say-die attitude which garnered the praise of Twitter.
