The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed star leg-spinner Rashid Khan as captain across all cricket formats following a winless World Cup campaign for the team under skipper Gulbadin Naib.

Former skipper Asghar Afghan, who was abruptly sacked prior to the mega-event, has been handed the vice-captain duties, the ACB announced in a statement regarding the new changes in leadership. The number one T20I bowler Rashid has already captained Afghanistan in the past albeit as a stand-in skipper in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers but did not experience tremendous amount of success.

Rashid, a veteran of T20 franchise cricket around the world, had a poor World Cup with the ball in hand managing to pick up just six wickets in nine games including registering the unwanted record of most number of runs conceded by a spinner in an ODI innings.
