The hero of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, Yuvraj Singh has spoken against the harsh treatment meted out to middle order batsman Ambati Rayudu ahead of this year’s edition of the mega-event. Despite having been a consistent member of the team, Rayudu was dropped at the last instant by selectors to make room for the all-rounder Vijay Shankar.
Criticizing the Indian team management, Yuvraj questioned the logic behind removing Rayudu from the squad. "It was disappointing to watch what they did with Rayudu. He was in the contention for the World Cup. He got runs in New Zealand but after three or four bad innings, he got dropped," Yuvraj complained.
A disheartened Rayudu later announced his retirement from international cricket despite not having played long for India on the global arena. Meanwhile, India faced a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final at Old Trafford.
