The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 produced the most thrilling game of cricket ever played as the winner of the tournament was decided after the game was tied twice, first in the 50 overs and then in the super over.
The standard of umpiring remained below par in the most important games of the tournament as the officials gave some wrong decisions at crucial stages of the knockout games which eventually affected the outcomes.
Kumar Dharmasena was involved in a controversial decision in the semifinal while Marais Erasmus gave Ross Taylor out in the final when replays showed that the ball was clearly going over the stumps and it could not be reviewed as well since Martin Guptill had wasted the review at the start.
Moreover, Dharmasena also missed a clear outside edge off the bat of Kane Williamson, but England got the decision turned in their favor by using the Decision Review System (DRS).
Fans were not impressed with the umpiring in the most important game of the tournament as they criticized the ICC for not appointing quality umpires for the final of the World Cup.
