England have been crowned as the world champions of cricket after a nail-biting final at Lord’s on Sunday. The host side was massively challenged throughout the day by the resilient New Zealand team which never gave up to the dream of winning its maiden World Cup.
English all-rounder Ben Stokes stood in the way of New Zealand and the World Cup trophy as he played an innings for the ages. He took the game deep and never gave up on the English dream after failing to do so in the past against West Indies in 2016 World T20 final.
The left-hander ended up with 84 runs off 98 balls which included 5 boundaries and 2 crucial maximums. Stokes not only helped England tie the game with a bit of luck, but he also helped the blue shirts set up a target of 16 runs in the super over as well.
The uncharacteristic knock by Stokes in the World Cup final would be remembered for a very long time and it would inspire the coming generations of England cricketers as well.
