West Indian master blaster Chris Gayle recently featured in the final 50-overs World Cup of his career, but he failed to make a memorable exit from the tournament. The veteran is expected to take retirement from international cricket in the coming months.
The 39-year-old all-rounder often struggles with fitness issues which is why he had limited himself to franchise league cricket before the World Cup this year. However, the opening batsman has made an astonishing statement as he has hinted towards a prolonged career even after reaching the age of 40.
“Because a lot of people talking, I am going to give them five more years of international cricket, “he said in an interview.
However, former West Indian greats like Curtly Ambrose and Andy Roberts have said that Gayle should not be given any more opportunities in the side as his time has come to retire gracefully after such an illustrious career.
