Former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes has become the latest person to apply for India’s fielding coach position, making him the most high profile candidate to throw his hat for the post. Speaking on his motivation to become India’s fielding coach, Rhodes praised the country’s hospitality.
“Yes, I have applied for the position of India’s new fielding coach. My wife and I love the country, and it has already given us so much -- we have 2 children born in India,” he stated in an interview with an online cricket publication.
Rhodes is regarded as the best fielder to ever play the game, with his exceptional run-out of Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 1992 World Cup often remembered as one of the highlights of his career. A frequent visitor of India, Rhodes has in the past served as Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians’ fielding coach.
