After Sri Lanka’s dismal show in the recently concluded ICC World Cup, head-coach Chandika Hathurusingha is in hot waters as he is being asked to step down from his charge after Bangladesh series.
After returning to the country from World Cup, Hathurusingha said he was keen to continue until the expiry of his contract, which was until the end of the next year. However, sources in Sri Lanka Cricket said SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva has written to Hathurusingha asking him to resign.
The 51-year-old was appointed in December 2017 after he left his job with the Bangladesh team. Hathurusingha was unable to overturn the fortunes of Sri Lankan cricket as under his tenure the island nation stands 8th in the ICC ODI rankings.
