The globalization of the beautiful game of cricket isn’t a new phenomenon. However, the discussion has again become a red hot topic as Zimbabwe was recently suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) over government interference.
Things became even more interesting as Ireland delivered a laudable show against England which saw former Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar coming forward to advocate the swelling of horizons of cricket. Recalling the events concerning Zimbabwe and Kenya, the speedster argued that the cricketing world cannot afford to lose teams. Shoaib even mentioned Ireland’s Test match performance England as he went on to question their absence from the recently concluded World Cup in England and Wales.
In addition to that, the Rawalpindi born urged the governing body of International cricket to formulate a proper policy for spreading the game globally by mentioning the growth of Afghanistan and Ireland. It remains to be seen how ICC takes up such matters as cricket fans want more teams in events like World Cup.
