Pakistan and Somerset batsman Babar Azam has made himself available to play for Somerset against Warwickshire when the next round of County Championship fixtures begin next month. Babar initially signed up for only Vitality T20 Blast but has now agreed to play Championship match at Edgbaston on August 18, if selected.
Somerset have said there isn't time to de-register Babar Azam and re-register Azhar Ali, and therefore the no.1 ranked T20 batsman in the world will fill the void temporarily left by his countryman.
"He's fitted in really well and we're all looking forward to seeing him play. Our philosophy is to build a home-grown side with the addition of world-class players, and Babar Azam certainly fulfils that criteria. He's one of the game's rising stars and to have him in our side for that one-off game and for him to be a part of our family for the Vitality Blast can only bode well for us," Somerset head coach Jason Kerr said.
