13 years have passed, but the memory of the highest Test partnership between the two greats of the game is still fresh in the memories of cricket fans. On 29th July 2006, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara built up a mammoth partnership of 624 runs for the 3rd wicket.
This colossal partnership came against the Proteas at RPS Stadium, Colombo. This was not just the highest partnership ever for the 3rd wicket, but also the highest partnership in the long vintage history of the Test cricket.
Mahela and Sangakkara left South African bowlers on their toes, while they enjoyed batting together for eternity. Sangakkara scored 287 runs while Mahela Jayawardene piled up 374 runs. This partnership helped Sri Lanka to win the Test match by an innings and 153 runs.
