India’s defeat in the semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament initiated a debate on the captaincy framework of the national team. While one group advocated Virat Kohli’s candidature for the leadership positon, others argued that opening batsman Rohit Sharma is a better captain as they brought forward his stunning results in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
All this led to reports about rifts between the two players which was recently brushed aside by Virat Kohli. Despite this, fans believe that something is cooking inside the Indian dressing room. After various cricket pundits, the recent man to become a part of this debate is none other than former Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar who supported Virat Kohli ahead of Rohit Sharma for leading the men in blue.
Interacting with his fans on his social media account, the 43-year old answered a fan question by adding that India doesn’t need Rohit’s leadership right now. Shoaib didn’t undermine the abilities of Rohit Sharma, but added that India should continue to have Virat Kohli leading all the three sides of India.
