Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) was recently suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for political interference. This puts into jeopardy their participation in their next year’s T20 World Cup as they might not be able to play in the Qualifiers for the mega-tournament.
Amidst the distressing times that have engulfed the state of cricket in the country, some Zimbabwe players have expressed their willingness to play international cricket even without salaries in the coming months. An unnamed Zimbabwean player has declared his teammates are ready to sacrifice their livelihood for a while in order to help the country’s cricket thrive.
“We will play for free as long as we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our next assignment is the (T20 World Cup) qualifiers. I will play for free as long as we are assured that we will be paid eventually,” a senior squad member told a cricket publication.
