Vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Ajinkya Rahane has not had a great time at the international level in recent times. The right-hander’s inconsistency with the bat led to his snubbing from the limited-overs side a couple of years ago.
However, captain Virat Kohli believes that his vice-captain is more than capable of making an impact in Test cricket as he has shown in the past. He also applauded Rahane for his relentless commitment to Indian cricket over the years.
“I think under pressure he has performed really well. The guy averages 43 in Test cricket, it is not like he is in his early 30s. I don't think we should jump the gun on someone like Jinx. He has done the job for us under pressure and it is the patch which anyone can go through. But I think, he will come around, he is that good a player,” he said while addressing Rahane’s lack of form in recent times.
