Hafeez, Malik unlikely to receive central contracts

Pakistan Cricket Board is currently busing preparing a list of centrally contracted players for the next cricket season. According to sources, veteran all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez would be out of the list as PCB is focused towards giving preference to players of all formats. It is important to note that Malik is available only for T20Is, while Hafeez currently plays both white-ball formats for Pakistan.

PCB’s Managing Director Wasim Khan will be sitting with Mudassar Nazar and Haroon Rasheed to finalize the list which is expected to get shortened.

Contrary to the last season having 33 centrally contracted players, this year’s list will consist of 15 to 20 players who will be classified in A, B, C and D categories.

Those players who fail to make it to the central contracts list will be eligible for selection for provincial teams of the domestic circuit. In addition to that, a 20% increase in salary and match fees of the players has been proposed.

The meeting will also see the agenda of Mickey Arthur’s extension getting discussed as his contract is getting expired on August 15.
