Bangladesh’s veteran cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has made a shocking switch as he left Dhaka Dynamites to join Rangpur Riders ahead of the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Despite leading Dhaka to final thrice in three seasons, Shakib felt the need to ink a one-year deal with Rangpur.
Knowing Shakib’s success with Dhaka Dynamites and their hostile rivalry with Rangpur Riders, the move surprised many fans. However, it would be Shakib’s second stint with Riders as he previously played for them in 2015 where he recorded a stunning bowling performance picking 18 wickets.
The 32-year old cricketer comes across as the new icon player of Riders which, in other words, means that Mashrafe Mortaza will have to look for a new team. Possessing a plethora of experience and rich form with both ball and bat, Shakib is expected to add immense value to the one-time BPL champion side. The forthcoming edition of Bangladesh’s T20 frenzy which promises to become a thrilling affair is all set to get underway from December 6.
