England’s Test opener Rory Burns has put the hosts in a commanding position in the ongoing Ashes game at Edgbaston as he struck an emphatic century to lead his side’s strong reply to Australia’s 284. Burns was the man of the moment, who turned things around remarkably from a poor start to his career thus far.
Burns’ stunning batting left many cricket pundits scratching their heads and eat their words including Australian great Mark Waugh, who had lashed out at the left-hander just last week in the Lord’s Test against Ireland. Waugh had predicted Burns would not get a spot in the playing XI as he looked terribly out of touch and did not look international cricket material.
Waugh’s tweet now came back to haunt him with fans roasting him for his “typical Aussie arrogance”. Even more galling for the twin brother of Steve Waugh was that Burns’ sibling Liam gave a befitting reply to him and correctly predicted Rory would give the Australians a tough time.
