The World Cup champions were left half-hearted against the top-quality bowling performance from the Australians on the 5th Day of the opening Ashes Test. England’s batting line-up collapsed courtesy a brilliant spell of bowling from Nathan Lyon.
In the chase of 398 runs, England had a nervy start to the 5th Day’s play after Pat Cummins dismissed Rory Burns, the centurion from the 1st Innings. After that it was totally a Lyon show. Nathan Lyon used the weary 5th Day wicket of the Edgbaston to its full effectiveness.
England’s batsmen could not resist the accuracy from Lyon and were bowled out for just 146 runs. Lyon picked up 6 wickets accompanied by Cummins’ 4 scalps. Australia won the match by 251 runs and went 1-0 up in the series.
