Former Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal has been included in the country’s list of 22 probables for the New Zealand Test series scheduled to commence next week. Chandimal was deemed as the island nation’s batting mainstay when he first entered the international arena but his dwindling form over the years has seen him lose his spot in the side often.
The 29-year-old was dropped from the team after his ordinary run in Australia where Sri Lanka suffered a brutal whitewash under his captaincy. Chandimal was soon stripped from the leadership post and was replaced with Dimuth Karunaratne, while he was also excluded from Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad.
Chandimal has been rewarded for his prolific run in the domestic circuit, where he has churned out runs consistently in the one-day tournament. It remains to be seen whether Chandimal can claim a spot in the final 15-member squad for the first Test.
