English all-rounder Moeen Ali has been going through a rough patch with the bat during the last year and a half as he has not been able to score runs in the late middle order. Moreover, his performance with the ball has also been ordinary at times as batsmen seem to have figured him out.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain has urged the team management to take the final call on Moeen’s place in the side as he has not contributed with the bat recently and that has affected his confidence as an all-rounder.
“The thing they've got to decide on is Moeen. He's been a fabulous bowler for England over the last two or three years if you look at his stats and how he's done. They just have to decide where he is confidence-wise; is he shot mentally? Is the lack of runs with Lyon being all over him, as he was in Australia, affecting his bowling? Is it slight technical things that he is working on with Saqlain Mushtaq? Where is he mentally? Because this game is played in the mind,” he said.
