Following a dismal show in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, top-order batsman Faf du Plessis’ future as South Africa’s captain faced many reservations. While the adroit batsman’s individual performance was brilliant which saw him amassing 387 runs at 64.50, same cannot be said about his captaincy.
However, new director of Cricket South Africa (CSA) Corrie Van Zyl buried all the speculations by confirming Faf to lead the national team in Test series against India. The rainbow nation will tour India next month for three T20Is and as many Tests. While the 35-year old is set to lead South Africa in Tests which would be a part of World Test Championship, his white-ball captaincy hasn’t been confirmed.
As per authorities, a meeting will take place in next few days to discuss future strategy of South Africa including the planning for 2023 World Cup. Van Zyl added that he wants to looks towards the next edition of World Cup and plan accordingly. For this reason, they haven’t announced a skipper for the shorter formats of the game.
