It has been a very notable trend in Pakistan cricket team’s history that after almost every ICC event, there is a change in the coaching and captaincy of Pakistan cricket team. The history has started to repeat again as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) bids farewell to Mickey Arthur and Azhar Mehmood, Pakistan’s head coach and bowling coach respectively.
Not just the coaching staff, but there have been news of change in Pakistan’s Test captaincy as well. These changes will have a wide range of impacts on Pakistan cricket team’s performance. The team which was building nicely under the supervision of Mickey Arthur, will now have to start again from the scratch under the new coach.
The PCB will look for a local coach this time around providing the player with a little bit of more comfort but this won’t necessarily enhance the performance. Arthur was an adamant supporter of player’s fitness and he worked hard to get that trait working in Pakistan’s team.
The new coach might work differently and hence the results can go either way. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Test team has not stabilized after the departure of Misbah-ul-Haq and now PCB is again planning to change the Test captain which can further destabilize the team.
It won’t be easy to predict whether the change in captaincy and coaching do any good to Pakistan or not. But that is for sure that the team which was in a building phase will have to revamp the process again.
