The Global T20 Canada match between Toronto Nationals and Montreal Tigers was subject to a bizarre delay for two hours after it was reported that the players refused to take field due over the issue of unpaid wages. It was revealed that the two team buses did not depart on the scheduled time from the hotel to the CAA Centre in Brampton.
GT20 Canada organizers later tweeted a clarification for the delay claiming it to be due to “procedural issues” between different stakeholders but they did not mention anything related to a pay dispute marring the proceedings.
The protest finally subsided after managers were able to convince the players and facilitate a portion of their pending payment. The involvement of Toronto Nationals was also significant given the fact that captain Yuvraj Singh was also in the mix.
