Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for announcing the central contract list as he believes that the board have short-listed the players of their own choice. The PCB recently trimmed the number of central contracts from 33 players to 19 players, which are divided into three categories, A, B and C.
The announced central contracts came as a surprise for Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. who are not offered a central contract by the PCB. However, they will be available for the selection.
“PCB issued central contracts to 19 players, now there’s no need of selection committee when they have selected the players themselves. It would have been better if this was done in consultation with the selection committee,” Rashid said.
After the departure of Inzamam-ul-Haq, the PCB needs to appoint a new head of the selection committee. The candidates for this post include former players Mohsin Khan, Rashid Latif and Shoaib Akhtar.
