Rain has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Australia in the 2nd Test of the Ashes 2019 at Lord’s. After the first day was washed out, the play began on the 2nd day, but the clouds continued to play hide and seek throughout the match.
But still there was enough in the wicket to make this Test match watchable for the fans. England was bowled out for 258 runs in the 1st Innings courtesy half-centuries from Rory Burns and Jonny Bairstow.
In reply, Australia fell short of just 8 runs in the 1st Innings with 250 runs on the board. Ben Stokes' incredible ton in the 2nd Innings helped England to put up a target of 267 runs for Australia in a very short time.
Jofra Archer made England fans to believe again after his remarkable start to the 2nd Innings. Despite Jofra Archer and Jack Leach’s heroics with the ball, Australia was able to resist the onslaught and drew the match with 6 wickets down and almost 100 more runs to win.
Rain delays backfired for England as they could not level the series and they are still one-win deficit going into the 3rd Ashes Test at Emerald Headingly on Thursday 22nd August 2019.
