England have opted for an unchanged 12-man squad for the third Test of the ongoing Ashes series against Australia. This means England’s highest wicket-taker James Anderson will not be a part of the squad as he is still recovering from his calf injury incurred during the opening game at Edgbaston.
Anderson could bowl only four overs in England’s 251-run defeat as he was forced to limp off the field on the first morning of the Test. He was then replaced with Jofra Archer in the subsequent Test, who delivered a remarkable performance on debut.
Anderson will, nevertheless, be given a chance to prove his fitness with the veteran seam bowler touted to play for Lancashire Second XI this week. Anderson’s longstanding calf injury did not allow him to participate in the solitary Test versus Ireland last month either.
