Pakistan cricket team is about to start their ICC Test championship campaign with the series against Sri Lanka at home. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has arranged a National Training Camp for the fitness test and practice of the selected 21 players.
Pakistan has also called Zafar Gohar, the left-arm off-spinner to the camp led by Misbah-ul-Haq. Zafar Gohar has been preferred over the other left-arm spinners in the circuit including Mohammad Asghar, Umer Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz.
Zafar Gohar only played 2 games in Pakistan Super League 2019 in which he picked up 3 wickets. He recently played for Warwickshire in England where he picked up 5 wickets in 2 matches. Zafar has not played International Cricket for Pakistan since 2015. At the International level, he has only represented Pakistan in 1 ODI.
On the other hand, Mohammad Nawaz, the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan in Asia Cup 2018, and Umer Khan, Pakistan Super League 2019’s star has been ignored for the National Camp.
This has raised some questions over the selection of the players for the National Camp. However, Pakistan will announce the squad for their opening ICC Test Championship series after conducting fitness tests.
