Jofra Archer captured the imagination of everyone with his blazing spell of fast bowling on day one of the third Ashes Test. Still fresh in the international arena, the 24-year-old registered his maiden five-wicket haul in just the second match of his Test career.
Archer’s ability to dart in menacing deliveries at tremendously high speeds with an effortless bowling action lends him a unique character. However, despite the bowling heroics of Archer, there has been a growing concern over the enormous amount of workload he has to shoulder. England captain Joe Root has been found guilty of relying heavily on Archer over the two red-ball games he has played thus far.
This issue was called out by former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who has warned England over the excessive usage of Archer. He feared Archer was close to being labelled injury-prone if his workload is not managed effectively.
