Despite being a gun player of white-ball cricket, India’s aggressive batsman Rohit Sharma failed to blossom in Test cricket. With his limited chances in the purest form of the game, Rohit showed a glimpse of brilliance, but never really achieved the needed consistency to cement his spot in the red-ball team of India.
However, his recent elite shows in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament which saw him amassing 648 runs across 9 games at 81 earned him another Test opportunity. This move of India’s selection committee excited the former Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar who backed the Indian player to do well for India in Test cricket.
Sharing his views on having Rohit making a comeback in Test cricket, the 44-year old said it was a wise decision to have him back in Test squad as he is a match winner. Shoaib had no hesitation in predicting a strong Test career for Rohit, but advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be a bit more patient with their top-order batsman.
