The retirement of former batting stalwarts, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan has left a big void in the Test team of Pakistan as no batsman has been able to fill in their shoes ever since. Being the two senior players after them, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq have been under immense pressure but they have not been able to deliver accordingly.
Asad recently addressed the media in Lahore where he talked about the added responsibility that he and Azhar have had ever since the retirement of the two former captains. He admitted that the overall performance from the current lot of seniors has not been up to the mark in Test cricket.
The 33-year-old middle-order batsman also said that he is aiming to make use of the good starts in Tests and convert them into big scores just like his mentors, Misbah and Younis, so that he could become a reliable batsman for the team.
