India’s start in the ICC World Test Championship wasn’t ideal as the top order collapsed after being invited to bat first. Losing three quick wickets, India were reeling at 25-3 before Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane showed his prowess and rescued the men in blue from a precarious position which was later used by their bowlers to gain a strong position.
First with Lokesh Rahul and then with Hanuma Vihari, the Test specialist shared two fifty-run stands to help India achieve a decent position in the first innings of the ongoing Antigua Test. The 31-year old scored a gritty half-century in tough circumstances and got dismissed at 81 missing out on a Test century by 19 runs.
However, Rahane has no regrets to be unable to achieve a personal milestone. Reflecting on his batting performance, the Maharashtra born said that I’m not a selfish guy to only think about myself. He added that the wicket was tricky so he was delighted to get some crucial runs to install India in a better position than before. With a lot of action, the Test match is promising to become a thrilling affair.
