Indian opening batsman Murali Vijay has been signed up by the Somerset County Cricket Club for 3 County Championship matches in the ongoing season. The top quality batter is not part of the Indian Test squad currently touring West Indies and will thus be available for the domestic franchise.
He will be replacing Pakistan’s senior batsman Azhar Ali in the Somerset lineup, as the 34-year-old has been called by his national side to participate in the pre-season training camp in Lahore. Pleased with the arrival of a star batsman in Somerset, Azhar wished Vijay best of luck for his short stint in County cricket.
“I am excited about the challenge of trying to help Somerset push for the County Championship. Somerset have an excellent reputation and I am looking forward to being a part of what they are trying to achieve,” Vijay spoke on the occasion.
