After the exit of Pakistan’s coaching staff, former players like Waqar Younis have started to seize the opportunity and apply for the vacant position. Pakistan’s ace fast bowler Waqar is eyeing the bowling coach role previously held by Azhar Mahmood.
The pacer has already enjoyed multiple stints as Pakistan’s bowling coach between 2006 to 2009, while also being signed as the team head coach between 2010 to 2011 and 2014 to 2016. In a recent interview, Waqar has reiterated his intentions for becoming the bowling coach alongside harboring ambitions of being the head coach.
“I have only applied for the bowling coach position till now but I still have few days left, so I might apply for the head coach job as well,” said Waqar. “However, I feel that I am not ready for that and I can better contribute to the bowling department for Pakistan. When you are not mentally prepared for something then you should stick to your expertise,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is being considered a favourite to become the next head coach replacing Mickey Arthur. Waqar has suggested he wouldn’t mind working under someone like Misbah.
