English opening batsman Jason Roy has not been able to make an impression in Test cricket after being a huge success in white ball cricket. The right-hander has failed to provide a good start to his team throughout the ongoing Ashes series.
Former English cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has slammed Joe Root and company for their mediocre display of batting in the first innings of the historic Headingley Test. He said that the host batsmen batted without brains in the first innings, highlighting the loopholes in the English batting.
Boycott also went after Jason Roy for being a liability for the team in the longer format as he said that the opener needs to get his brain tested if he goes on to play another Test match for England.
“If he plays another Test as an opener then someone wants his brains tested. Roy is brilliant in one-day cricket, but I must say again, he does not have the defensive technique to stay in consistently against the new ball and he has not got the mental aptitude for patience and concentration that is required to open the batting,” he said.
