As India started their two-match Test series with a comprehensive 318-run win over West Indies, skipper Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his cap, becoming the most successful Indian captain in overseas Tests. Kohli surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become India’s most successful captain playing away from home. Under Ganguly, India had registered 11 Test wins in 28 matches away from home. Kohli achieved the landmark while captaining the side in his 26th Test outside India.
Furthermore, Virat Kohli is now tied with MS Dhoni for having the most number of victories in Tests for an Indian skipper. Both Kohli and Dhoni have 27 wins in the longest format of the game. While Dhoni acclaimed this feat in 60 Tests, Kohli reached the landmark in his 47th Test as India captain.
Kohli took over the captaincy from Dhoni when he retired from Tests in 2014. Last year, under Kohli, India managed to defeat Australia away from home in a Test series for the first time in the history.
