The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently appointed Ijaz Ahmed as the new head coach of the U19 side, ending days of speculation of the job perhaps going to former spin wizard Saqlain Mushtaq who had also applied for the post.
Despite finding himself unlucky in the race for the head coach position, Saqlain wished his former teammate the best of luck for his expected three-year coaching stint. The 42-year-old confirmed his belief in Ijaz’s ability to perform a good job and help Pakistan unearth new talent.
Saqlain had earlier expressed interest in coaching Pakistan’s junior teams. He possesses a wealth of coaching experience having been involved with the England side for a long period of time. Saqlain represented 49 Tests and 169 ODIs and bamboozled batsmen throughout his career with his expert use of the “doosra” delivery.
