The iconic Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi, India’s second-oldest cricket stadium, is expected to be renamed soon as the Arun Jaitley Stadium in honor of the former Union Finance Minister who passed away last week.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rajat Sharma however clarified that the ground will continue to be called the same but the stadium will undergo a name change. “We are not changing the name. It will remain Feroz Shah Kotla ground. It will also be called Arun Jaitley Stadium. It is an addition to that (old name),” he told a news publication.
Jaitley served as the president of the DDCA for 14 years from 1999 to 2013 before acquiring a major role in Indian politics. The renaming will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on September 12 in addition to the inauguration of the Virat Kohli Stand.
