Despite performing magnificently in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, English opening batsman Jason Roy is finding himself struggling big time in the ongoing Ashes series. Unlike his teammate Ben Stokes, the aggressive cricketer has failed to utilize his talent in the red-ball cricket.

With scores of 10, 28, 0, 2, 9 and 8, Roy has mustered 57 runs at a shoddy batting average of 9.5 across three Ashes Tests. With his current technique, confidence and footwork, it definitely seems cruel to have him opening against the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
After a series of low scores, Roy’s place in the fourth Ashes game commencing from September 4 in Manchester is facing a lot of tough questions. If England plans to bring a new face, then Dominic Sibley of Warwickshire comes across as a leading option as he showed good form scoring 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries in this season of County Championship. However, it remains to be seen if England’s patience with Roy has come to an end.
