Aleem Dar dubs Steve Bucknor as his role model

The ongoing England versus Australia Test series is Pakistan’s Aleem Dar’s 128th appearance in the longest format, which has equaled the record held by West Indies’ legendary umpire Steve Bucknor, who retired from officiating in cricket in 2009.

Speaking on his record-leveling match, Dar said: “It’s a great honor to equal the number of Test matches of my role model, umpire Steve Bucknor.” The 37-year-old Bucknor is largely respected as among the longest-serving umpires in the game, having performed officiating duties for almost 20 years.

While Dar and Bucknor figure at the top of the list, Rudi Koertzen of South Africa is on the second spot in the distinguished list. Koertzen stood in 108 Test matches before he announced his retirement from umpiring in 2010.
