Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed head coach of the Southampton-based men’s team for the next year’s The Hundred competition. The legendary Sri Lankan batsman will work alongside former Kiwi speedster Shane Bond, who is the assistant coach in the tournament.
Jayawardene and Bond have worked together in the past for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians, leading the team to two coveted titles. Jimmy Adams and Richard Halsall, England's former fielding coach, will also be part of the coaching staff.
"I think The Hundred will interest the world's best players because England is a great place to play cricket. The structure of the tournament is good and that means most of the guys will put their name in the hat because this is a tournament that excites them,” Jaywardene said.
