Indian selectors are looking to move forward from the former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the veteran cricketer has not been picked for the forthcoming three-game T20I series against South Africa.
Instead, rising sensation Rishabh Pant is installed in the squad to get few more chances to display his prowess. The team for this series will be led by Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma serving as his deputy.
After the conclusion of India’s journey in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, Dhoni took a break from the national team to serve his regiment in Territorial Army. However, he hasn’t shared his future plans yet. It is expected that officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will contact the 38-year old player in this regard.
South Africa’s tour of India comprises of three Tests and as many T20Is which would commence from September 15 with a 20-over game at Dharamsala. Next two contests will be held on September 18 and 22 at Mohali and Bengaluru respectively. Visakhapatnam, Pune and Ranchi will serve as venues for three Tests.
